Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face. But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him. Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
Review:
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this or not, but I gave it a try because of the movie version that came out. I really loved the trailer for it. And HOLY HECK AM I HAPPY I DID. Hands down, one of the best books I've read. It started off SLOW, but after the first few chapters, I was really hooked. Like, couldn't put it down. I read it in a matter of hours. And when it ended, pretty sure I shouted, "NO! WHAT?! THAT CAN'T BE THE END! I NEED MORE!" So yeah. Definitely recommend. Read it now. DO IT. Trust me, you'll love it.
Bianca is everything. She's sarcastic, reserved, cynical, and real. And Wesley, well, you have to love him. He may seem like a dick at first, but really he's just... Wesley. And OMG I LOVE HER FRIENDS SO MUCH. They give me life.
I loved how at the end, she really opened up and wasn't as jaded as she'd been. And Wesley changed too, which was wonderful. And it just ended perfectly, but left me wanting more. The DUFF made me really miss high SCHOOL, which is something I never thought possible.
Honestly, everything about this book is incredible. It's unexpectedly exactly what you need. And that's all I can really say about it.
